Overview
Yangshuo is one of the most rewarding destinations to reach by car in southern China. The approach from Guilin offers continuous karst scenery, and having a car makes it easy to visit Xingping, Moon Hill, and villages that are poorly served by public transport.
Once inside Yangshuo town, however, a car becomes less useful. The center is compact, West Street is pedestrian-heavy, and the famous Ten-Mile Gallery restricts private vehicles. Experienced travelers park and switch to two wheels.
How to get there
From Guilin
Take G65 or G321. The G321 country road is slower but far more scenic, passing villages and rice fields. Distance is ~65 km and driving time is 1–1.5 hours.
From Guilin Liangjiang Airport
The airport is ~90 km from Yangshuo. Allow 1.5 hours. The toll road is faster; the parallel local road is more scenic.

Traffic is slow but busy with scooters, e-bikes, and pedestrians. West Street and the riverfront are not car-friendly. Use your hotel as a base and walk or rent bikes locally.
Ten-Mile Gallery vehicle restrictions
Private cars are typically restricted from entering the core Ten-Mile Gallery road during daytime hours in peak season (spring, autumn, and Chinese public holidays). A free electric shuttle runs the route, and bikes/e-scooters are allowed. If your hotel is inside the restricted zone, you may enter with proof of booking.
