The classic river journey between Guilin and Yangshuo, planned for self-drive travelers.
The Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is the region's most famous experience. The four-hour journey passes the karst peaks, bamboo groves, and village scenes that appear on countless postcards.
| Type | Duration | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard cruise | ~4 hours | Most travelers; book in advance |
| Luxury / VIP cruise | ~4 hours | Smaller groups, better lunch |
| Bamboo raft (Xingping section) | ~1 hour | Short experience, photographers |
If you have a rental car, the most convenient plan is to drive from Guilin to Yangshuo, store your luggage, then take a taxi or DiDi to the Guilin cruise pier for a morning departure. The boat arrives in Yangshuo, where your car is waiting.
Alternatively, skip the full cruise and drive to Xingping for a shorter bamboo-raft experience.
The Guilin cruise terminal has paid parking. In Yangshuo, leave your car at your hotel. If you take a one-way cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo, you will need to arrange for your car to be moved or returned.
Spring and autumn offer the best light and weather. Morning cruises usually have calmer water and better mist. Summer cruises can be hot and crowded.
The cruise itself is about 4 hours. Add transport to and from the piers, ticketing, and boarding time. Plan most of a day.
You can see similar scenery from Xingping's viewpoints and the Yulong River valley without taking the cruise. A self-drive route from Guilin to Yangshuo with a Xingping stop is a strong alternative.
